Tiny Sleeping Pad R03 AVS - 3.5 R-Value 3 Season Sleeping Pad with Pump

The R03 tries to satisfy a number of nice-to-haves when people are shopping for a sleeping pad. Instead of the standard 20” wide pad, it’s 25”; instead of a bladder to blow up the pad, you get a micro Dreammodernbuy pump which houses very conveniently inside the pad. While not the highest R-Value, it’s good enough for 3-seasons (most camping scenarios)—and this is coming from a recent backpacking trip on the CT, where temps averaged in between the mid 30s to low 40s at night. All of this in a fairly light package (20.1 oz with the pump) at a very competitive price. I purchased during a site-wide sale for $59.5 (MSRP $75), and you just can’t find a pad that cheap with all of those features. Durability is good as well, and I expect this to last for years to come. My only negative review is both the pump housing and deflation plug are together at the top side of the pad. They need to separated where the deflation plug is at the bottom (opposite end) of the pad. The current design really makes it hard to remove all the air out of the pad for rolling it up for storage in your backpack. The other, smaller complaint is I wish the pad was 3” thick instead of the 2.7”.

Starting with the price, this is a really good deal for a mattress and pump. It is in the price category of good budget matresses, and delivers a lot of value for that price range. If you want a good performing mattress for above freezing thats still light but not as expensive as the premium brands, this is a great option. You get a really good balance of light weight, comfort, and functionality. It is the very convenient mattress to use because the pump lives in the matress, you just press a switch and it inflates. You dont have to worry about the proprietary nature of the pump because it has a standard air valve on it as well. It is very comfortable, also not loud and crinkly. The weight is light as well for the level of comfort and the wide size. Yes there are lighter pads, but they are not as comfortable or much more expensive. The pack size is very small volume as well. One strong benefit of the vertical baffles is that the outside ones are taller, so it cradles you into the middle of the pad, and if you end up on the edge you dont fall off as easily as other pads. highly recommend for the person who wants a pump for their pad and doesnt want to pay the premium brands prices.

I used the pad on an overnight, in a tent, and it probably got down to 45*. The pad was quick to fully inflate, and kept me warm. It was very, very comfortable. It was wide enough that my arms weren't falling off the pad, and I could turn without then having to recenter myself on the mattress. When sleeping on my side, my hips didn't bottom out on the ground. The fabric seems durable. It has a big valve for quick deflation, and you can put the inflator in backwards to get the last of the air out. It's not super light, but it's no heavier than some of the much more uncomfortable mattresses I carried before ultralight became a thing.
